Hi,
I'm back on the back after 6 months out after a complication riddled L4/5 discectomy. Currently have a 2006 trek 1500SLR 60cm frame and a carrera fury 20", both of which I use for commuting the 13 (road) or 15 (off road) miles each way to work. Im 6'4", 14st.
My racer is killing me. Back pain after 20 mins, relief as soon as I stop and stand up. I've tried every possible adjustment of the seat, my cleats, tried a few alternative stems. The mountain bike causes zero problems, I can ride for hours and hours pain free.
I'd had some minor problems with back pain on and off pre op, but put that down to my slipped disc. 6 weeks back on the bikes and I've come to the conclusion that my racers' geometry/ size/ style is just not agreeing with my back, so will be posting it on the classifieds shortly. It won the tour de france 7 times according to a badge on the frame, but I cant see I'll be racing on it ever.
So, all that carp out of the way, can anyone suggest a quick road bike that I can use for commuting, coast to coast & other pleasure rides that has a roughly even bars and seat height? I've measured my existing bikes, equal cockpit length, mountain bikes bars and seat are roughly even (seat +1cm), road bike is quite different (seat +8cm) which I think is the source of my problems.
Low budget, possibly even just a frame & fork purchase, my trek has quality components that could possibly be transferred.

Road: 2006 Trek 1500
Off: 2009 Carrera Fury
I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
