Considering a Ribble sportive, and as i have the choice and there is not much difference in price, i'm not sure if i should go for SRAM Rival, or Shimano 105. Please discuss.

Hello mate - this one is discussed quite often on here:
http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12784605
is the latest discussion on it.
Generally the gist is - try both if you can and find out which one you like more and what fits your hands the best.
As a general tip - in the top right hnad corner there is a search function - it can be pretty helpful when looking for advice.
Good luck

Ridden both and SRAM Rival wins hands down.
Better shifting, hoods are better and it is lighter.0 -

Cheers for that mate, thanks0 -
I've got 105 and SRAM Apex. I much prefer the Apex which is cheaper than Rival. My next bike I'd get Rival. I like the very positive change on the SRAM. If you like a slick change go for 105. If you like a distinct change go for SRAM....Also had lots of problems with my front derallieur on 105... but this doesn't appear widespread.0

Ideal world. Shimano for the front derailleur and Sti matched with Sram rear derailleur and double tap shift.
I love the way the Sram changes between cogs on the cassette but not convinced that double tap works as well for big ring to little ring and vice versa changes.0 -
Sram, no contest IMO.Find your limits...and then exceed them frequently0

Both are excellent but I love Double Tap so SRAM wins for me as well.0
