Hello i have got a garmin cadence sensor and seen a few people have put earth magnets on there cranks instead of having horrible zipties. I was just wondering if any one has done this on here and what magnet I will need to buy and the size. I have a orbea onix. please help
Many thanks
Kieran

I've got 10x4mm on my cranks, paid £3 for 10.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I use 12mm (3mm thick I think) ones. They fit the end of the pedal spindle perfectly, are completely invisible and work great. Just google 'rare earth magnets' or search on Ebay.

    Pics?

They're tiny little magnets - Google will show you what they look like. I bought some similar to these. Then just imagine the little magnets attached to the end of the pedal spindle.

Do you really need a picture?

  • Ah, just wondered how they fitted to the crank, have now re-read and they go on the pedal spindle

This is mine on the back of my Tiagra crank, located better than on my Tricoss as it's more central and cleaner.

Same here. My magnet located itself there automatically - I was holding it close to the crank and it jumped out of my hand and into position. Just left it there. Its not glued, just held in place by its own magnetism.

That's a really neat solution but my spindles are Ti :(

You're going to have to superglue it to the crank then!

Instead of using a cable tie try fixing it to the crank with some clear mastic. My cadence magnet has not moved since I stuck it on nearly a year ago, and you cannot see the fixing.

Well I zip tied mine and still lost it. If I get one of these magnets how easy is it to remove magnet to then remove the pedal?

Rare earth magnets do lift off, just need a little more effort and maybe a screwdrive to lift them off.
