A few weeks ago i bought a specialized Hot Rock mtb for my son.It was second hand and apart from a stiff suspension its a great bike. The suspension has got worse so Im looking at buying a new suspension for him.
My problem is I have no idea what will fit for a 24 " wheel bike.

Suntour CR-8V 700c Forks From £11.98
These have 50mm to 166mm threaded steerer .....If that helps

A great price but would they fit and are they any good

no it will not fit. it is for a hybrid fork with 700c wheels.

sounds more like you need to swap out the springs in the current fork talk to the shop that supplied the bike.

Measure the dropout to crown race distance, you need to get similar, 700c forks will be a waste of time, but a shorter travel 26" fork will probably get close.

For example my Daughter's old Suntour XCP75's (alloy lower) are 470mm from centre of axle to lower face of crown race, compare that to the 24's you have.

But if the bike uses Vs then how are you meant to fit the brakes when you're using a 26" fork?

Use discs......the OP doesn't mention what brakes it has.

A quick google reveals that the hot rock uses Vs
