Traffic "Calming"

Second time now. What the hell do they make those speed bumps out of? I'm guessing it's surplus concrete from the grand old days of the USSR. You've got a choice, try to squeeze round them and risk a broken bottle in the gutter or go over the b*&%$£s and risk encountering a hole the size of the grand canyon on the other side.
They may calm 'traffic' but they do precious little for me.
Deep Breaths.......

Ours look more like that. Bit tricky if you have to go over them in the wet. :?Cannondale SS Evo Team

I'm glad my commute does not involve speedbumps, but if I pop down to my mum and dad's I've got concrete cubes, full lenth concrete speedbumps accross the road and every speedbump is not the same height either! When Edinburgh Council stuck the speedbumps in my mum and dad's area they had to reduce the size of them as (no joke) a bus grounded on one them.
The plastic ones are a right danger and they have removed them recently, then there is the people who block the cycle lane on the same roads!

Especially annoying when people park in such a way as to make going round them on the kerbside difficult.
And as ndru said, they don't seem to do much to slow cars down either, if anything drivers do worse things to avoid having to slow donw for them.0 -
I rerouted my commute to avoid most of them. this said 25mm Marathon Plus soak up most road lumps and bumps.0

They are merely opportunities to practice bunny hops, amirite?0

Biggest issue I have with them on my commute is cars braking to almost a standstill to go over them.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

IME new ones are nearly always placed at intervals along the worst-surfaced roads. If the hump don't slow you down, the crater that's been left just ten metres further on surely will."Consider the grebe..."0
