Just bought a gorgeous sram red chainset ( not BB 30 ). Will my existing very low mileage dura ace 7900 bb work or do I need to buy a different one like a sram gxp ?

I've just done exactly the same and yes, I believe so.

Two types available form Ribble where I bought mine - normal at £16, ceramic at £80.

English and Italian threads available in stock.

You need a GXP BB. The spacing on a Shimano BB is different I believe.

GXP BBs are quite cheap to purchase.

    +1 must be GXP

    HT2 (Shimano) will not work.

See enduroforkseals for some nice examples

hope do an adapter for a few quid...one of the sides on the gxp is smaller diameter (think the non-driveside) so the adapter spaces it out...simplazz :D

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm in a similar position having bought a SRAM Red chainset last week and don't really want to start a very similar thread.

Is the ceramic BB worth the extra money? I was looking at the Sram GXP Blackbox w/ceramic beaings for £105 at Ribble but then saw this one and was wondering if it was worth taking a punt seeing as its half the price:

or is it better just to opt for the standard BB which is about £25?

    Thanks

You can get the Hope BB in red and use their adaptor for GXP...
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

the Hope adaptor only works on Hope BBs

This is because Shimano/Raceface/Acros/everything else uses a placky top hat inside the bearing but the Hope runs crank-directly-on-bearing, so the adaptor simply sits inside the bearing and decreases its internal diameter.

You could try fitting the adaptor inside a top hat but my guess is you'd struggle to get it to fit properly.

The std GXP BBs are okay. Like I said, if you want something nicer look at the Enduro ones. Very nicely made.
