I popped into Decathlon the other day to have a look at their bikes as Im in the market for a new one with a budget of around £1000.

They have their two carbon models in there and I look the look of them both but can't seem to find any reviews on google etc about them, non in english anyways.

Whats peoples opionins on them? I had a sport1 as my first bike for the past year and a bit and its done me great.

The Facet 3 looks extremely good value at £900 for a carbon frame and shimano 105 triple. I don't know of any other supplier who offers this spec on a carbon framed cycle at near this price - Ribble, Planet X or Focus. I know less about Sram price points.

As always it just depends whether you like the bike compared to others - give it a test ride. You see masses of Btwin cycles on the road in France and Spain - perhaps that's why at these prices.

If I had a grand I wouldn't be going to decathlon, quite suprised to see they even do a carbon frame. I'd look at a focus from wiggle or even a planet X carbon bike

JRooke... can I ask why you wouldnt go to decathlon? Im not disagreeing with your opinion I was just wondering the reason behind it?
& not only they do carbon frames they do bike upto about 5k! Btwin bikes are pretty big in France.

I just popped down to my local one again just now and they are going to order in a facet 5 for me so I can have a sit on it.

I may take a trip to my local Evans in a litttle while see what they have to offer too.
    :)

for the money imo you cannot beat the Facet 3 - who else offers a carbon frame with 105 on it for £899??

I had a sit on both at the weekend and they both seem very very nice bikes, really nice finishing on them both I think for the money they are hard to beat

    but

depends if you are deterred by the name Btwin on them and would rather buy a named brand

Branding definately won't put me off.

Like i said I had one of there sport 1's for over a year and not had any trouble with that.
It looks like the Btwin team in france all use the facet 3/5 frame so it must be half decent?

I'm thinking I'm gonna give it a go...!

I don't know, i just kind of assumed they were dreadful, the btwin bikes i've seen a few friends have just look like they are gonna fall to pieces if u pedal to hard, had no idea they were as big as having frames worth 5k, crazy, i guess my knowledge is useless in this thread lol

fortunately for my bank account wednesbury have not had a facet 3 in stock as i reckon i'd buy one if only i could get to see one. i've had a sport 2 for several years which has been really good & always say i'd buy a btwin again.

Haha, the essex branch have sold all their facet 3s and 5s I know as I went in their yesterday. They can't seem to get hold of any 3s and have ordered me a 5 in directly from italy. Fingers crossed its here soon so I can try it. The guy said they are selling them faster than they can order them in.

    Like the description:

"Care instructions Clean very regularly with suitable products available in our department store for bike maintenance. Part of this bike is made up of composite materials. These materials are very lightweight and therefore VERY fragile."

I have seen a Facet 3 on and off in the Wednesbury Decathlon store. I am seriously thinking of getting one. It's just that I don't like brown. This is the only reason why I would consider a Cube Attempt or Cannondale CAAD 8. Its a wonderful specification for the money that even these other bikes can't match at the price! It's just the colour

The facet uses the same frame that Decathlon supplied to AG2R a few years ago (up to 2007 I think)

    There a pic from 2006 here : http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum ... w=previous

Mind you, they may have changed the type of carbon and kept the mould shape.

And AG2R never won anything back then...
