Can't see vid, on he was talking about a squeaky bum moment at bray hill earlier. Assume this is it. Just did another lap about 2hrs ago, managed 115mph average. Not too bad.

The economy on the IOM would collapse overnight if they banned the TT my mates cousin has a guest house in Douglas and they rely on the TT just to stay open each year. What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?0 -

I'm sorry but that's just utter b0llocks!
Yes a few of the little B&Bs rely of assraping tourists during TT fortnight to stay open. But there is much more to the economy that that. In fact, a lot of the BB owners around Douglas have suggested that by getting rid of the TT and spending the same on other touristy type things, it would actually have a more positive effect. I think the only reason this has not happened yet is that the government are just too idle to be bothered thinking of anything. Nobody wants to rock the boat.
The TT actually brings very little to the Island in monetary terms once you offset the cost of additional policing and medical staff, maintaining the course year round, lost trade due to road closures, maintaining the grandstand, putting on free entertainment and so on.
You also need to remember that the majority of visitors to the TT tend to do it on a shoestring. They'll be camping, and watching the races is free (unless you choose to sit in the grandstand etc) so it's mostly beer money which almost all goes to the 2 beer tents.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive fan of the TT, always have been. And I feel it would be sorely missed if it was banned, but the number of complete tw@ts over this year was terrible. The mountain road was closed more than it was open. There were a couple of days where it was open for no more that 20min at a time before the next bellend stuffed himself into a hedge and caused it to be closed again.
Sadly it does seem to be reaching that point where the NIMBY types are gaining enough ammo to get their way, which will be a massive shame imho.

Generally speaking, yes, the roads here are in a dreadful state. Some of the worst I've ever seen.
However.....they always keep the TT course smooth as a smooth thing. They've put special non-slip paint down on the roads and have put down that special grippy, sandy coloured surface on some of the bigger cormers. It's all really expensive stuff.
They spend millions maintaining the course, then plead poverty when people complain about the state of the rest of the Islands roads.
Don't get me wrong, I love the TT, always have, and I don't mind paying for it with my taxes. I just sometimes wish the govt would open their eyes and realize that the Island has so much more to offer. Then maybe other people would see it too.0 -
Oh, and that's not a crash, this is a crash!0
-
I dunno, CWNT, I've been round the TT course. It's pretty bad!0
-
Then they have even less of an excuse for blowing our entire annual roads budget on it
Always found it very smooth. Perhaps it's just after driving round on the other farm tracks they call roads over here that makes it seem better than it really is.0 -
Bad roads = Sheffield.0

If you're going to post TT crashes, this is the one that always makes me go all queasy

Funny you should say that, Dan Kneen had a very similar moment yesterday, but by some amazing miracle, he managed to recover.
You know it's bad when the camera man dives for cover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGcS8YD9fpw
Granted, it's not as impressive as the one Sheeps posted, but then again, remember Kneen had no run-off, no gravel trap, just a solid stone wall on each side.0 -
