hi, my mate is looking to change the forks on his Trek 1000, we have found some on the internet but the steerer length is different to the original forks, the original forks have a steerer length of 310mm and the new ones are 300mm, would i be right in thinking all we would have to do is remove a spacer or is it a bit more serious than that. :?

Yes, if you have a 10mm spacer to remove that will be fine.
Be aware though that the top of the steerer tube should be about 3mm below the top of the stem to allow the top cap to compress the headset bearings.
