I have a trek 1.5 which has a sram 9 speed 11:26 cassette. will it fit or would I need to purchase a new shimano 9 speed. if it's a new cassette what else needs replacing?

SRAM & Shimano 9sp cassettes are interchangeable, yes it'll fit
There have been some freehubs which only fitted Shimano 10sp, Shimano 8 & 9 and SRAM didn't fit, so what I think they're trying to say is that all will fit0 -
