    Buy!!

Im waiting for my pair to be delivered I got them for £144 from the net. I couldnt pay £245... well I could, but my missus wouldnt be too chuffed.

However make sure you try some on first, I went to a sunglasses hut because originally I was after a pair of oakleys for cycling and I only wanted to spend £100 but after trying on about 10 different pairs i 'reluctantly' tried on the jawbones as they are pretty fugly...and expensive! but they were the only pair to feel really comfortable and I mean REALLY comfy...all the others had niggly things either the arms dug in slightly or the nose piece didnt sit comfy etc... but the jawbones were just PERFECT!

so I scoured the net and got some ordered in matt black. ( playing it safe) however I was really tempted by the retina burn...

if you like em and they fit buy em! :D

why worry what they look like? its what they are like to look out of that matters.
If you think people will laugh at you for buying cheap glasses, it is nothing compared to how much they would chortle if they found out you actually spent £245 on a pair of shades!!

If they fit you okay and you can afford them, the get them. Oakleys are expensive but the lenses are the best you can get. Wear a pair of £8 Lidl specials in the sunshine and the put on a pair of any Oakleys and you will see the difference.

Nothing comes close to reflecting light like Oakleys do, and as mentioned earlier, their customer support is second to none. Also, should you scratch the lenses, go to an Oakley dealer and they will send the lenses away to be rebuffed so that they're as good as new. They'll also do any frame repairs.

I don't wear Oakleys on the bike as I can't afford them but I do have a pair of Oakley Crosshairs for casual and motorbiking use and they are phenomenal.

If you can afford them and you're comfortable wearing them, then get them. It really would be money well spent.

(And no, I have no association with, or work for, a company that has anything to do with Oakley whatsoever)

 yeah, if there's one thing that's stopping me winning the Tour, its the clarity of the lenses in my sunglasses. Even more so as sunglasses worn on the bike inevitably get covered with sweat which would negate any advantage of better lenses inside the first 5 miles. Another triumph for a marketing department.

To the OP - if you like them and can afford them, buy them. But don't believe for one second the extra quality is worth the money.

How the frik are you getting sweat on your lenses?!!!

OP - if you have the cash, Jawbones are fantastic cycling goggles. They are not to everyone's taste, but then again there are plenty of grim sights on bikes, with or without Oakley's! If you can live with a different colour you'll pick them up at 50% of the price on ebay.

No, I've just never found sweat pouring onto the lenses! Helmet lining seems to soak most of it up, or perhaps the Jawbones are ventilted enough for me!

No, I didnt buy them - I cant justify the price, even if I can afford them. I have always been like that!

The OP was never going to buy them anyway!

    I just bought custom oakleys from http://www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk/?sourc ... 44c3886449

They where way cheaper and totally authentic. I emailed them to ask them how to process their custom orders and they told me they send the order off to Oakley directly and they make them.

I got custom Oakley for £140 where as on the Oakley site they where £190. Plus sign up to their newsletter and get an extra 10% off first order.

    I recommend them.

I have just built the exact same glasses from this site for £160... now I am tempted to actually buy them!! The only option it doesnt let you customise is the rubber gripper but maybe if I call them they will sort that too.

Have you or a mate got an old pair of oakleys that they dont do anymore.

I ve just chopped a 10 year old pair of E wires in against a new pair of M frame Heaters and got a 40% discount. Oakley will do this on all their frames other than custom builds.

    Check out infouk@oakley.com

I gotta say their service and communication is the best i' ve ever come across.

    I did not know this!

I've got an old pair of half jackets that I don't wear anymore, very tempting!

Just sent them an email, fingers crossed they come back soon I've got a couple of pairs lying about I dont wear anymore

Chip? Not at all. Ex racer now sometimes sportive participant who treats all other cyclists as equals regardless of equipment or experience.

There was only one comment where I see a chip.

Am I being mental even considering spending this much money on a pair of glasses?

the most mental thing of all is actually bothering to ask the opinions of a load of people you've never met. Buy them - don't buy them - no offence but I doubt if anyone cares.... :|

If everybody did that there wouldn't be a forum.

Erm, I paid nowhere near £245 for my Jawbones (from a reputable source, I might add). Does the custom element really drive the price up that much?

I swear by mine, but I'm happy to settle with a plain black pair. This isn't - afterall - a fashion show. :)

But like others have said; if you want them and can afford them, then Godspeed. Go for it!
