  • Just received a pair of these in retina burn (the most lairy, offensive colour you can get) but love them. You can definitely tell the quality when you get them! haven't taken them off my head all day...However I will not be wearing them on the streets any time soon.

    Cost to make -5p
    £245 for name sticker.

    What a load of bo@/?ks!

I have Oakley Jawbones (matt black) and Oakley Flakjacket XLJs.

Agree the Jawbones dont suit everyone but they are a quality pair of glasses.

Once they get mass production going, I'm afraid it does. Was working at pharmacetical plant, found out cost 1 or 2 p per litre to make, and they sell in little bottles for £60.

Where are Oakleys made? In a plant in Germany, by highly skilled German engineers? or in a Far Easy, in China, Taiwan?

You have to be mad to spend £250 on a pair of sunglasses. Likewise spending £600 on a pair of pedals.

No, you just need the disposable income.

There's a difference between having disposable income and having more money than sense, and throwing your money away.

ie buying Kimber speaker cable at £16,000 a 6' pair. Could Richard Branson afford it? Yup. Would he be a fool to buy it? Yes.

To you it's throwing money away. To whoever is spending, they are doing so on something they want and getting enjoyment from that To call them mad is just demonstrating your envy. IME every time I hear the phrase "more money than sense" it seems to come from people who have neither. (I'm Referring to people I know, not anyone on this forum)

lol, no I'm not. Got lots of gadgets and boys toys, not jealous of someone with £250 shades. Just think it's foolish.

If you want to spend £250 on biking stuff, do it more sensibily. What about £50 on shades, £200 on complete set of bike lights? (couple of Smart LED 1W, then Hope Vision 2)

Or some clothing. Not Assos as you'll get one sock for £250

Buy them. I'm currently in need of some glasses but due to the size/shape of my face the split jackets, which are almost identical apart from the 'jaw' shape, are potentially what i'll be wearing.

If you can't be the best, buy the best ;-)

Your posts here made me chuckle. You really cannot compare Lidl specials to Oakleys believe me.

Buy whatever you want and b0ll0cks to what other say.

For me I do think £245 is a lot but they look the nads.

Try eyewearoulet.co.uk as they have good prices on Oakleys and service is 2nd to none.

But he's got a valid point though. There are far more cost-effective ways of spending £250...

Buying Oakleys instead of, I dunno, Blocs or something fine but much cheaper is like buying a Cervelo instead of a Boardman. It doesn't make much sense from a value point of view, but that's not what you're buying with brands like that. I'm sure the OP doesn't think for a minute he's going to notice £200 difference in optical quality when he's out on his bike, but that's not the point is it?

So as plenty of others have said, if you can afford it and they're worth it to you then get them.

I wouldn't bother with the polarized lens, is there any particular reason you need it? I think alot of people go for it just because it's expensive. I'd go for a fire iridium lens, it will look far more bling (which I think is what your trying to achieve if you want pearl coloured glasses) and £40 cheaper. Don't bother with venting, it really doesn't make any difference and it's not a bad idea to try them before buying. Jawbones don't sit on my face very well, which is why I have Radars instead.

Tried lots of different lenses inside and outside the shop, walking around between sunlight and shade around Covent Garden. The polarised lens was far better over a range of light conditions so I bought them. Suggest going to a shop and doing the same.

Also read somewhere that not all lens colours are suitable for all applications. Had a quick google for it, but couldn't find it.

You want yellow or gold coloured lenses for cycling anyway. Not gray.

Am I being mental even considering spending this much money on a pair of glasses?

the most mental thing of all is actually bothering to ask the opinions of a load of people you've never met. Buy them - don't buy them - no offence but I doubt if anyone cares.... :|
You don't really understand a forum do you...

I don't think the OP will be making a decision purely based on the responses on here. Still, thanks for your helpful post...

I would say, if you can afford them, get them. Too many people are put off spending money on good stuff. You worked hard for that cash, enjoy it.

au contraire, fella - I got the feeling that he wanted 'validation' from forum members - which is why he asked the question in the first place. Still, thanks for your helpful post.

unless you are his accountant, or his mum, (my money's on you being an accountant), I doubt if you have any idea how he got the cash - or even if he 'worked hard' for it. But carry on patronising anyway...

All I said was 'get them if you want them' - the only people who should care are the OP and the lucky Oakley retailer......and you, by the sound of it....

    Come on fellas, stop biccering!

No, I didnt buy them - I cant justify the price, even if I can afford them. I have always been like that!

    But I do love them.
  • I was about to buy a pair of these this weekend but changed my mind and went for some flak jackets.

Freeze pro shop in Edinburgh have them in the sale (and had a further 20% if you were a member of a certain snowboarding forum)

    Buy them.

I had a pair of Oakley's for over 3 years now and they are well worth the money. I have also had two pairs of cheaper sunglasses (£30) i wanted to use for cycling and in both cases they broke through normal use!!

The Oakleys have polarized lenses and it makes a huge difference to glare and they have stood up to regular use, on and off the bike.

When/if these ones ever break I won't hesitate to spend the money again.
