Can i use a 9speed rear derailleur on 10 speed set up?

Fairly sure the answer is yes as the shifter does the indexing but thought i'd doule check.

the answer is indeed yes but the last two 9spd mechs (XT) I used on a 10spd setup wanted to overshift slightly, so much so I had to alter the cable routing slightly to compensate and get them right, which was a bit odd as officially they should have been spot on straight out of the box.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0
