edited June 2011 in MTB buying advice
I have just been playing with the online sizing guide and the only thing I can manage to make a difference to the recommended frame size is the inside seam slider.

Now my trouser length is a 31/32 ( I will measure correctly tonight) if I go by 31 I am a small if I go by 32 I am a Medium (but barely) I have never been a small in my life! (ok maybe when I was 6 months old) I am thinking i should go for a medium (If I was to actually buy one) but I don’t want to go against the advice of the people who make the bikes. BUT if I did hit the buy now button right now it would be on a Medium because I think I know best.

Small seems all wrong to me though, has anyone actually purchased one?

There is so much more to bike fitting than trouser length lol. Have a read of our What Size sticky.

In the end if you can't try you will be taking a punt, but hoepfully the guide info I wrote will help you be more informed.

Yeah exactly, so why is this apprently "really good" sizing guide on their site only measureing trouser length yet they have sliders for torso length arm length etc?

Just by trouser length I am just inside a medium so knowing myself (as I would) I would say the rest of my measurements would take me well into that medium probably on the cusp of a large like with every other bike but I like the top end of medium rather than the bottom end of large.

Dey haz ze sliderz but ze sliderz do not vork!

No change with IE, I can max out all sliders and the frame size recomendation stays on "S" it only changes when I mess with the inside leg slider.

It worked for me, took a bit of practice to measure correctly but got there in the end. I was on a XL Marin but it recommended a L Nerve AM which is what I went for, measured it up when it got here and reach, etc are virtually identical to my Marin. If you've got any doubts then ring the UK phone number, they'll help you out.

I rang the UK helpline and spoke to chap at Canyon told him my size etc and he advised a large rather than the medium the website was recommending . He was spot on it is right size.

I am 6ft1" with about 33 inside leg.

Bike is excellent and you wont be disappointed

    Cheers

I am going to do just that, I had just read somewhere (cannot remember where) that this website calc was VERY good, seems not though.

I would try it a few times with different variations in your size. A couple of weeks ago I measured up and it insisted that I should go for a Large on the basis of what I put in. It didn't look right to me (I usually go for 18 or 19'' frames), so I tried it again, having measured again - there wasn't much more than a centimeter or two variation, but it came up as M this time. I didn't record my measurements so I'm not 100% sure I didn't input something wrong the first time - but it pays to keep trying to be on the safe side.

It's also worth adding that you can get two identically shaped people, yet they may like totally different sizes ;-)

I have just recieved my medium Nerve XC. Did all the measurements 3 times and if I added a cm to the inside leg measurement it reccomended a large. I was a bit worried it would be too small but it is fine the large would have been like riding a 5 bar gate.

I did a bit of research and Canyons medium is most other makers large. Measure up a bike that fits you and check it against the geometry on the web.

Why would a guy on the phone who has never seen you be better than a measuring service that has probably been used by thousands of people satisfactorily. If you go with the PPS reccomended size you have the chance to swap it for another size within 30 days.

My Canyon is small (16.5in label on back of seat post). My inside leg measurement is 31in -jeans size 32in. My height is 5'8". Standover clearance is little more than one inch with my feet flat on the ground so I wouldn't be comfortable with a bike any taller than that.

The stretch feels just about right. I've moved the seat back a few mms but the bike's very comfortable and I've no need to think about changing the stem or bars.

The no-quibble guarantee means you have an opportunity to try it out in your own home and reject it if it's wrong. Imagine if a dealer offered to send a bike to your home for you to try with no obligation to take it. They'd be inundated with buyers. It's pretty much the same thing.
