Can someone give me a good route to get from Alderley Edge to Lyme Park. I imagine I don't want to get on the A6. I'm not familiar with anything north of Pott Shrigley/Whaley Bridge but looks like I could get there from Kettleshulme. Thanks

Check this route out. Ive done variations of this route on numerous occassions. Climbing up from Port Shrigley though the brickworks is a good test for the legs but it's only a short climb. If you want to make it more difficult you can carry on towards Bollington and turn left and head up Blaze Hill. Once at the top of that, if you turn left you wil back on the route I have attached but slightly further down the road. Cycling down the A6 isn't too bad for this stretch as the road is quite wide and in reasonable condition.

THank you. That's pretty much the route I would normally take from Alderley up to the Brickworks (and then I tend to go up the Goyt Valley). Just wasn't sure which was the best way to get to LP. I'm riding over from Warrington so not too familiar with the area or state of the roads around that way.

If your intention is to get to Lyme Park as quickly/directly as possible (while still avoiding the A6), then consider using Lyme Park's West Parkgate, which is off Shrigley Road, halfway between Higher Poynton and Pott Shrigley:-

(see the track that leads from Shrigley Road through the green wooded area).

Streetview: Take the turn of Shrigley Road that's to the left side of the Methodist Church as you're facing it (sort of straight ahead on this view):-

The track through the woods is a bit rough, but doable on road tyres so long as you're careful. After about 1/2 mile you end up in Lyme Park's quarry car park (the joy of tarmac!). I've done this a few times, including recently, but it may be easier if it's dry-ish.

Brings back memories. My ex-gf lived in Disley on the A6, about a stone's throw from Lyme Park. Beautiful up there. I once cycled from Derby to Disley along the A6. I must've been nuts, that was a tough ride. Especially around Buxton/Dove Holes or whatever it's called.
