Bottom bracket black arts

Which bottom brackey can I use with an FSA Gossamer Compact chainset? How do I size a bottom bracket without removing the old one? And would the above chainset work with a shimano 8spd cassette? If not could I use a 105 compact chainset with the afore mentioned cassette? Need to try and get this sorted as cheaply as possible before the 6th June as I'm biking from Glasgow to Nottingham for charity!

You can use calipers to measure the distance from tip to tip on the axle, but you'll need to remove the crank arms. But to check the thread you need to take the BB out. Course you could guess it's probably English thread. Depends on the frame of course.Say... That's a nice bike..

which crankset?
is it a new one that takes External bearings or ............."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

The existing bottom bracket is square taper, i am looking at upgrading to 105. this would mean external bearings. do i need to know anything other than thread type??
my frame is an orbea aqua t23 and i am also guessing it will be english thread.0 -
Axle length it'll be something like 1xx mm. Just oredered a 115mm myself (double)Say... That's a nice bike..

well 105 can be found with Square taper and Octalink and External.
any crankset can fit.
measure the BB shell I guess it will be 68mm so BSA (English) thread.
I am not too sure on the 10spd with a 8spd chain as the chain is wider so the rings could be too close casing extra rub in some gears."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the one i am looking at is external.... do i still need to know the axle length??0

^ That's useful for me ta 105 chainset in taper will be nice.
btw I had a BB and it was too big to thread through, it was replaced with another and that threaded ok.
Which is which? And from that, presume my BB tube is..?Say... That's a nice bike..

no they are all the same."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

So assuming my BB is english I could get a 105 with correct BB and put it straight on?0

after having the BB shell faced at your LBS.
you will also need one set of tools for removing your old cranks and BB and a new set for installing the new BB and preloading the bearings."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I can take the old one off and out but get the lbs to face it and fit the new bb and crank?0

check with them first about costs as many would include facing and fitting in the price.
So check what is the best deal before splashing the cash."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
