I'm a confirmed lyrca wearer, I do look a little odd making the tea in my safety boots and lyrca shorts before I get changed.

    Pics or it didn't happen.

In fact this thread is useless without pics ;-)

@op its a slippery slope my friend before you know it you'll be looking at those hairs protruding from you lycra and think to yourself

"hmmm I'd look much better without those"

Caught up with Sketchley and his lycra on this evening's ride home. Almost didn't recognise him until I remembered this thread!

It was raining, my brakes were not working great and I just had a minor bump with another cyclist, so I was only pootling (sp?) along at 16mph....

I still haven't brought myself to do the full lycra thing. I still wear baggies and with the size of my arse that's likely to remain so.

the first time I met Jake he was wearing full cycling lycra, it was a scary moment thinking back on it.

Indeed. I'm surprised no one has already posted it.

I have some red craft bibs and they don't make me look like that, thankfully!
  • I asked very early on on here about lycra - was it just a cool thing or was there a point. The overwhelming response was that it was worth it, so I got some and I have never looked back! Some mornings I look in the mirror and wonder why I am wearing less now than I did in my 20s when frankly everything held together a bit better, then I start off on the bike and realise the advice was sound - it is more comfortable, breathable and lighter - altogether yummy.

As for the to boxer or not to boxer - I really couldn't comment!

Well I took the plunge too, not my red ones though as my washing machine is b@ggered and I am off the laundrette tomorrow (uuuurghh) Felt great and dare I say it faster and more comfortable.

The terms of reference in this thread are leaving me very confused.

    Baggies over lycra?
    Underwear?

    Perverts!

Baggies over lycra = wrong (unless they're the clippy type like Endura do)....

For me - just commuting on the road bike felt all weird when wearing my ex-MTB kit. So I've invested in some proper lycra (was commuting in just base-layer stuff) and also added a pair of bib-shorts.

I felt a right Rodney wearing them - until I got on the bike. :D They are so much more comfortable than any other shorts I've worn to ride.

The tops I ordered were labelled as 'Orange' - nearly blinded the other guys in the office when I had changed - it's a bit bright.

Not as bright as that orange they use for fake tan though
