Blown to a standstill

Now, I have had headwinds before, but last night on Maryhill Road, I was literally blown to a standstill. Relatively flat section, just hit a clear area and wham, the wind just rushed at me, stopping me in my tracks. All bits of branches, signs and different floatsom and jetsome swirling around too. Was glad to get home and batton down the hatches.....
Cancelled the evenings MTB run, would just be too dodgy heading for the woods in those conditions.
Bit better today though, managed to cycle in during a window of dryness between two downpours. Holiday after today for rest of week.... Mull, here I come!

We were cycling in this morning and I was thinking "this tailwind is not much help" then glanced down and saw 23mph on an uphill.
and if that wasn't enough of a clue - these poor sods going the other way were red-faced and barely moving
I was laughing at my mate for getting a lift home last night but to be fair - the wind was biblical and with the downpour hitting just as he was leaving: I really can't blame him, it would've been really unsafe to be on a bike in that weather.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

I touched 30 on a gentle upgradient today. I don't mind the occasional gale but when it carries on for a week I get a bit peeved with it all!
I was going to try to do a maximum lactate HR test on Sunday but there wasn't any point - I'd not have been able to pace myself on an out and back 30 minute session; normal resting heart rate at 30mph plus on the downwindl leg, going nowhere into the wind on the upwind........Faster than a tent.......0 -

You lucky sod0 -
The wind has been ridiculous. I spent most of the time airbourne rather than 'on the ground' on Sunday and yesterday. I was out with a friend that I've recruited to cycling to help him lose weight (currently weights 17st) and he managed to stay firmly on the ground - I'm thinking bike weights may help!0

I saw that happen to someone on the way to work a few years back. I preferred to watch rather than participate at that time in the morning.0 -

I felt a "forceful nudge" going over London Bridge yesterday.
I was going to complain but I could sense the annoyance of the North being aimed my way....Food Chain number = 4

Took a high bridge on the way home, ~23mph crosswind, nearly got blown into traffic.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0

Wasn't the Redheugh Bridge was it? Luckily was still a bit ropey off the post match drinking on Sunday to have to face that wind across that bridge yesterday!!!!!!!!!0 -
Got (chooses phrase carefully) blown over when I was a teenager and carrying much less weight than I do now, but I still avoid cycling in very high winds. I did get blown to a standstill walking in the very big storm in the 90s that poor Michael Fish failed to forecast, though.0

Glad my speedo wasn't working as i tackled the headwind, i fear the results would have been all too depressing, struggling to spin even on the smallest gears at times! :evil:Cannondale SS Evo Team
