I have just chabged my chain on my Ultegra groupset. I am now using a KMC 10 speed chain with the snap link. When the chain is in the 39 front ring it seems very slack especially in the 12 on the back ( I have a 12-25). Do I need to remove an even amount of links, ie 2 at a time to keep the amount on the chain even as I seem to remember reading this somewhere ?

Cheers

Davey.

If you didn't remove any links, you need to do so. Just make it the same length as your old chain.

yes you need tp remove a few links

shimano's recommendation for chain length is that with the chain on biggest ring and smallest sprocket, the axes of the jockey wheels should be vertically in line

    there's a diagram here...

And, yes, need to remove pairs of links at a time (ie 2, 4 or 6 etc)

Easiest way to do it is to put the chain onto the smallest ring at the front and at the rear. Then bring the two oen ends of the chain together until the chain barely touches the top jockey wheel on the rear mech, doesn't have to touch to be honest a small gap will be fine.

That way your chain when you join will be the correct length, well it works for me.
