Should there be a gap next to stopper plate?

there's a gap on mine, which is torqued to shimano's spec
the crank can loosen over time, so you could try tightening a bit, try to get both bolts about the same torquemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -

it's the bit just visible between the two sides of ther crank clamp, it fits onto one clamp bolt and clicks in place over the other
