Hello everyone

Just today, my friend got a Trek 1.2 (2010) for 520 pounds. He is insisting that it is a much better deal then my spesh allez 16 (which I got for 380).

Apart from the drive train compononts, Tiagra derailleur and sora STI's, I'm curious to know the main differences?

Also; is there such a big difference between Sora and ST-2300 apart from the support for an extra sprocket?

Just interested :)

The trek is 9 speed and probably compact (I think there's a triple version too but not sure) while the spec is 8 speed and double. That alone would make me say the trek was a better deal but that's just my opinion. Don't worry about it anyways, just ride it and have fun!

The 2010 Trek 1.5 had Tiagra shifters but not sure about the 1.2. I looked at the Specialized Allez as a winter/commute bike but the dealer was a cock. The Trek as an early 2010 release in 2009 worked out a better deal for me.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Pretty much even, the difference between 8 and 9 speed is almost unnoticable, I don't miss any gears when I switch from my 9sp Enduro to my *sp Trek, or even a 6sp Rockhopper.
Plus 8 speed chains take longer to wear out.

The frames will be similar. If you spent the difference on some Planet X Model B's and nice tyres yours will be much lighter, and feel nicer to ride.
And now you know, and knowing is half the battle
