Another Tyres question....sorry

Hi guys, new to mtb'ing so please bare with me.
I've got a Boardman Team HT with the standard Continental Speed King 2.1's on and am convinced I'm going to end up killing myself if I keep riding the trails on these as they have little grip and therefore give me no confidence.
I'm looking for a new set of tyres and don't really want to shell out much more than £50. I mainly go XC with a bit of downhill thrown in.
Would I be better off going bigger ie 2.35" if they'll fit? I've been looking at Maxxis High Rollers and Panracer Fire XC but have no idea really!
Any help would be most appreciated as I'm hooked but am fed up of losing control and want to go faster :-)
Cheers
Lee

tyers are the most noticeable upgrade you can make to a bike for the least amount of money Lee. I personally have loads kicking about for different bikes/conditions You can also play around with the pressures to make a tyer feel completely different.
You will find that some tyers excell in one type of condition and are terrible in another and you will struggle to find a tyer that is great for XC and great for DH.
I personally would recommend a Maxxis advantage 2.25 (folding) on the rear and a Maxxis High Roller 2.35 (folding) on the front. The High roller is small for its size and more like a 2.25. This setup will have more drag than your speed kings but will have tenacious grip and is the best any trail any conditions setup I have ever used.Yeti SB66c 20130 -
You'd be fine with either of your own suggestions. Don't expect them to work miracles though, you may be just aswell running what you have and getting used to them for now, will help the skills improve they are a good fast running tyre for the drier months.0

they are awesome tyres i personally will run them day/night/summer/winter.
ive ridden them for months now in the dryest and wettest trails loads of confidence no noticeable drag.

I know what you mean about the Speed Kings. They seem to have an odd combination of high resistance on roads and little grip on loose surfaces.
I recently got a pair to replace some ones I had from Decathlon. When the Kings wear out I think I'll go back to the Decathlon ones as they are only a bit heavier but seemed to ride a lot better. Nice and cheap too.0 -
Go to On One for the Schwalbes, there's an offer on at the moment0

I also run a 2.35 high roller up front, in super tacky, i have it quite hard though, but ive never really liked the advantage and prefer the ignitor 2.35 (silkworm supersonic) on the back, if find it great in all conditions and rolls pretty well too.0

^ This! Nobby Nics or Rocket Rons for £20 each.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

Gonna sound like a dumb question, but the Nobby Nic evos in the link above - they work well front and rear?
If they do, I may well be investing - I've some Mountian Kings I'd like shot of!How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

They should work ok. I've got some in the cupboard for later in the year.
All the 2010 Schwalbes seem to be more resistant to damage and wear than the previous offerings. I'm sure somebody's said they seal and seat better on stans rims than the new 2011 tubeless ready ones too.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

I'll be having polite words with On One in the very-near.How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.
