Fork/frame compatibility

My TT bike has an old school threaded steerer tube/quill stem combo. I'm thinking of replacing the entire bar assembly; whilst I could get one of those quill/aheadset adaptors, I'm toying with the idea of replacing the forks/headset at the same time.

Assuming I get an appropriate headset, will a modern set of forks be compatible with my old-school frame? Any subtleties I should be aware of?

...but if your current frame/headset is 1inch then make sure you get a 1 inch threadless fork and a 1 inch aheadset, and an ahead stem with a 1inch reducer sleeve.
