Decent SRAM compatible external BB??

Right, we all know that the basic GXP bottom brackets are crap.
The ceramic ones are about £150, which strikes me as pretty hefty - they'd need to last 8 times as long as the standard one to make it worthwhile.
Any suggestions as to an alternative? Unfortunately, to complicate even further, it needs to be Italian thread?
Or do I just use the GXP's as a £20 fit and chuck away every 6 months item?

My first one failed within about 300 miles, the second one fitted F.O.C under warranty is allegedly a revised design (Fitted Last July/August) hasn't been touched since.
That said I am using a Chris King one for my next bike being built at the moment and will swap the one in the Wilier for the same at some point.0 -
