Front Wheel Upgrade Query

Just a quick one. My brother is after changing his front wheel, he has at the moment the stock wheels that came with the bike in 08. Alex Ace-17 rim and unbranded formula DC22 hubs, not sure what the spokes are. He is looking at a Pro II evo, Crest rim and DT competition spokes. Strength wise would the new wheel be stronger than what he has now or about the same strength?

He is after a lighter wheel without losing too much strength, as what he has now has stood up to the riding done on it.

What bike is it for? Is he heavy, and what terrain does he ride?

GT Avalanche 3.0 disc 2008, 12 stone. We ride Epping forests single track and trails, some of the down section have a fair few tree routes and a bit bumpy. At some point in the future we will get a rack for the car to go further afield but even then it's not going to be hard hitting stuff.

The wheels he has now have stood up to the riding done on them. He wants the new wheel to be at minimum as strong as what he has now, as he is still learning some techniques and has on occasion landed a bit rough on them.

The Arch is also an option.

It's more which rim now, as he wants Pro II Evos.

I don't think the upgrade is worth it for the money involved. It will be lighter, but if the old one is well built, no stronger.

By far the best upgrade he can make is a new fork, and new lighter tyres.
