loose cassette
I recently changed my 10 speed 105 cassette for an Ultegra 10 speed.I fitted the spacer that comes with it and torqued it up.However the cassette is still free to move on the freewheel.Do i need to add spacers?,and will i need to re do hi and low settings?

i think the total spacer thickness for shimano 10-sp on mavic is about 3mm
that's the standard mavic 2mm spacer, plus the shimano 1mm spacer
is this what you've got?my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
I've since added the 1mm spacer and wasn't 100% sure it had sorted it,but the shifting is all to cock. Will re check torque etc, then re do hi and lo settings i think.0

Bit weird. 10 speed 105 and Ultegra cassettes should have identical widths so the same spacer used previously should apply to the new Ultegra too.
I recently changed my 8 speed SRAM PG850 cassette on a Mavic Aksium 2008 to a new 9 speed Tiagra cassette and found that the spacer used with the PG850 was too thick for the Tiagra. It was about 3mm I think. I wasn't expecting that because I thought 8 speed and 9 speed cassettes were the same width, and the sprockets/chain on 9 speed drivetrains were fractionally narrower as a result.
I tried removing the 3mm spacer entirely but there was too much play. In the end I found a slightly thinner spacer (about 2mm?) and used that. Now the 9 speed cassette is snug.
I often wish bike mechanics was more of an exact science!0
