Hardrock --->Crosstrail.

Looking for a bit of advice please..
I bought a Spe' hardrock 2008 and enjoyed it,but to up my fitness and due to my routes I moved to a 2010 Alize roady...unfortunately due to a misspent youth MX~ing my scaffoid on my left hand is shot and no adjustment would allow comfort.
I sold the Alize on with a "mild" loss of ££ and purchased a 2010 Hardrock sport disc,no issues with the bike but I think it's too slow for me now and I rarely go off road as such,I use roads, the Thames towpath and the Jubilee river.
With these routes in mind I don't think a MTB is right and think perhaps something like the Crosstrail with front sussers would be a better choice just in case of mild off-road excursions.
 TBH I hate being overtaken and get frustrated when I can't catch road bikes... ,@ least with something a bit more roady I'll have a chance...not meaning to upset anybody but I see other riders as a challenge as I go out a lot on my own being a shift worker..I supppose it's a measure of performance of sorts..
Crosstrail good or not?....thanks.

You could save you're self some cash by fitting some carbon rigid forks and slick tyres. Try seaching exotic forks on ebay and getting some specialized nimbus 26x1.5s
Alternatively go and buy the crosstrail! and don't know ifs helpful, but its scaphoid.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0 -

I can't opt for slick's because of the routes I use.
I think the issue is with the gearing more than anything..I just asked in case I was missing anything obvious..apart from the medical dictionary  ...thanks for the input...0 -
A 44/11 gear is about 33mph at 120rpm!0

The nimbuses aren't entirely slick, alternatively you could opt for a semi-slick like the borough xc's on the crosstrail. Its very easy to underestimate the difference a set of tyres can make!
Could up the gears on the Hardrock too, the two bikes really aren't that different in many ways. You could fit a 48t on the front?
A lot of the difference with the allez would have been that it was a damn sight lighter... that hardrock isn't light for an MTB.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0 -
I did wonder about changing the gearing but was worried it might naff up the whole bike.
I am using road tyres currently and they have made a difference,I wouldn't underestimate the advantages of correct tyres.
I think I may have to admit I chose incorrectly considering my riding style and routes..
What put me off was the idea of a Hybird looking like a Mary poppins cycle...thus I never considered the "sport" hybird...still unsure though... :roll:0 -
Yeah, I dislike hybrids for that reason too.
You can make a "road" mtb cool though. Check this out: (obviously you'd be wanting gears though) http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12655351- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0
