Sram chain compatibility?

Is a sram chain compatible with an old ultegra 6700 9 speed set up as i'm getting a bit of chain rub on the big ring when in 8/9 gear.
I have a spare hg53 chain would this be better suited?
Its a new project by the way and here it is,its a GT Edge from 94:D

    Just checked the chain,looks like its a sram pc89r by the way.

    yup.

    You could try a narrower 10spd chain if it's a big deal
