Ok guys, this is going to be my first decent MB, I know you can spend 1000's on these beasts  , but I just can't justify spending that sort of money (yet  ) . I've done my research and have whittled it down to these two 8) .

Giant Talon 2
Trek 4900

The components seem very similar, is the Talon worth £50 extra? Is it because of the Rockshox? are they so much better than Suntour?

Trek has remote lockout, good or gimmick?

What about the rest of the components?

I will be mainly using the bike on trails through woods etc.

Your expert views are much appreciated

Cheers
Neil

If you're spending that much then you might wanna get yourself down to Decathlon. I was there today trying out bikes and the Rockrider 8.1 at £450 is a really nice bike. It feels like a real quality machine. Light too. I don't have the cash or I would have bought it myself.

I bought my first mountain bike 12 months ago, after a good chat with staff at Harry Halls i went for a Genesis Core 10 £600. I love it and i cant see myself trading it for anything soon. Give a Genesis a test ride. MBR mag gave it 9/10.

    +1 for a Genesis

I've had a Core 30 for just over a year. Cracking bike!
