Possible bottom bracket noise?

My bike has recently developed a noise that only occurs when putting more power through the cranks like when going up hill. It seems to coincide with turns of the cranks. It kind of sounds like something is pinging on the frame if that make sense. I cannot feel it through the pedals and there appears to be no play in the cranks/BB, and the cranks feel smooth when rotate by hand. It sounds like it is coming from the BB but could equally just be resonating through the frame.

I don't think it is the pedals as I would have thought I would feel sticking bearings through my feet?

Any suggestions of other checks. What is the best way to check the BB bearings?

    On re-checking there does seem to be a small amount of play at the cranks, but only in certain places not all the way round. It is a Campagnolo Chorus BB 1.370 x 24T - 102 mm. I assume these are a cartridge type? Goes off to search/google :?:
