Help me spec my Pipedream Scion build on a small budget

I've got about £1000 in my bike fund and I've decided that I want to build a Pipedream Scion 853 in blue.
So that leaves me about £650 for all the other bits and pieces, I can probably find some more money down the back of the sofa "or in the wife's purse" but ideally I want to stick as close as possible to the budget if at all possible, say £100 max overspend

Can you please help me draft the spec list?
Merlin are doing full Deore groupset with brakes for £270 http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/MTB++Parts/Transmission++Gears/Groupsets+-+MTB/Shimano+Deore+Disc+Brake+9+Speed+Groupset_DEORE-DISC-GROUP.htm
Any one seen any better deals?

I'm not sure which forks to get. Wheels are mystery to me too? I mostly ride around peaks, dales and Coed-y-Brenin

Go easy on me it's my first build but luckily I've got a mate who can help me put it all together
Cheers

fork, ideally you need 140mm u-turn as the frame geometry can, and does, handle anything from 100 to 140mm and anything in between. so don't limit yourself by going for a set length, of say, 120mm because 120mm forks are cheap and in abundance.

wheels don't matter so much you can pick decent deals up on Fulcrum Red Metal 5 (on-one get them in for 100 notes), Mavic CrossRide and a few others in the 130 bracket but if you shop around you can usually find a bargain.

but having said all that you'll still probably have to extend the budget slightly to accommodate the fork. and i'd advise you do.

would Sektor RL 100-140mm be about right?

It is a good fork, but a bit heavy - I'd go for a Revalation RL:

You can adjust the travel internally, and with the lighter structure and air springs is over a pound lighter. Plus has adjustable threshold for the lockout. Is 300 quid if you sign up with Merlin for the VIP.

Deore is a good groupset for the money, but don't count out SLX, some German places are doing full groups very cheap.

Have a look at Exotic Carbon Cycles for stems, bars and seatposts.

and if you you really are tied to the budget then you can always opt for the Tora 318 130 u-turns, which are also heavy, but will ultimately do the job.

but bear in mind you've got a steel frame so isn't the lightest, and decent budget wheels, also light but not the lightest, it all adds up on a steel build. you're looking for a final build weight of < 28 / 29 lbs mark ideally

I could get the Toras then upgrade to Revs in 6/12 months when I've got more saved up
I'm keen to get the bike before the summer .

Supersonic - which german websites do good deals on the groupsets? I want shimano as i've always had tehm on my mtbs over the years. SLX sounds great if I can get a good deal on them
