Trek 1.2 Triple or Kona Honky Tonk for end to end ride?

I'm just getting in to road cycling after being a bmxer but getting a bit too old for it. I've got around 700 pounds to buy a bike. I'm down to the kona honky tonk which i love for its simple lines and retro style, but I also appreciate that aluminium is lighter then the former's steel frame and carbon forks shave some weight which is why i like the look of the trek 1.2 which i'll be able to get at my local bike shop. So which should i pick to do the end to end ride on in a month's time?

    My son has a 2010 Trek 1.2 Tripple wich is very comfertable and stable handling, would recomend the trek.
