Hi,
Am looking at investing in a new Boardman Road Comp 2011 - (White) and would like to know if you can get the brakes that CX riders usually use on the top of the handlebars...
The Bike has Sram Apex road braking system.
Does anyone know if them levers will be compatible with this system??
Help on what products i'll need would be need will be appreciated??

The add-on levers are called cross top brake levers and should work but you do need to cut the brake outer you have at the mo and get the right size for your handlebars.

As a fellow newbie, I have to ask (in a really not-rude way!), why would you want CX style brakes? I don't mean to be an arse, just interested!0

@snickwell - as an example of why you might want them... I've been riding a mountain bike for years and bought a road bike last September. I was a bit worried about the dropped handlebars - a few rides on a friend's bike showed that I *could* use them but I was worried that my back would ache and I'd end up spending all my time on the flats - the bit of the bars like a normal mountain bike's, where there aren't any brakes.
For me, the cross-top levers were a kind of insurance policy - I figured that if I really couldn't get on with the dropped bars, I could buy the cross-top levers and spend more time on the flats.
I've done 400 miles on the road bike now and I wouldn't even think about fitting them to my bike!
Lee - if you were thinking about them because you're concerned about the dropped bars, I'd say give them a good go first, you'll almost certainly get used to them quickly! :-)

Hoods are the default position for riding and are very comfortable, you can reach your brake + shifters very easily. It is a bit like riding on a flat bar bike on the bar upward tilting bar extensions but a little closer together.
I would try to get used to the bike before making alterations personally .FCN 3/5/90
