Chorus vs Record Chain

I brought Chorus 11 chain in 2009 and it lasted 3,800 miles before my Park chain tool dropped in .75

In 2010 I brought a Record chain with hollow pins, it lasted 3,100 miles before Park tool dropped in .75

Today I've just brought a Chorus 11 chain to replace the record. The only difference is weight, what's that going to matter to me! The Record doesn't last as long proven by me!

Chorus - 2 European sportives
5 UK sportives, 6 races

Record - 2 European sportives
5 UK sportives 7 races

Don't waste an extra £20 when you get less 700 miles. fact proven Chorus lasts.
fyi - Also I always lube after rides longer than an hour

    Did you change the cassette? May have been a factor in expediating the Record chain wear?

    Did you buy the chain tool? Save yourself £££ and get KMC 11 with quick links surely?

    my record chain lasted approx 5000 miles including some winter riding before dropping in at .75.

    The KMC 11 is a one time only connection according to their own recommendation, so what's the point? It costs more than a Chorus 11 speed at most outlets too. As for the chain tool, you simply do not need the official Campag version. I've managed thousands of miles without using one and no hint of an issue.

    I've just bought a chorus 11spd chain and added on a kmc missing link. Easy to fix if the chain break which in my experience with a 10spd chain did well over 3000 miles with no problems at all. And you don't need to carry a chain tool. just a couple of grams of steel.

    I personally think missing links are great and I remove my chain frequently to give it a proper clean.

    Curiously, how often should you check your chain for stretching?? Because changing a cassette and chain every year with 11speed would be expensive.

    If you’re chain breaks i.e a pin fails you’re left with an inner link at one end and two outer plates hanging off the other so what use are kmc missing links without a chian tool to remove the other pin holding the two outers in place? You need two inner links with two pins missing to use the quick links or have I not had enough sleep?

    Whats wrong with reusing kmc links? Been doing it for years. You can buy a pack for a couple of quid anyway.

    How many times have I heard change your cassette when you wear a chain. Ask Leonard Zinn or read his book he says use 2 chains before changing the cassette. We all know the chains go before the cassette. I wouldn't waste money on new cassette without checking all the sprocket teeth before even thinking about changing the cassette.

    3ish chains per cassette no? No need for zen or zin, just chane the chane when the chain tool/ inch rule tells you to and not when it says change cassette.

    I've done the same when I was on 10 speed. 11 speed packaging says not to re-use the link though, which I guess is down to the slightly thinner profile? It may just be a health and safety overkill but I still prefer to stick to the Chorus version.
