Rim wear - dull oftten-asked question...

So, changed brake blocks and was thinking about rim wear; reading various posts, I looked and noticed definite concavity of the braking surface, but haven't worked out a good way of measuring this yet. Just by eye it looks around half-millimetre (front rim less so). If I can find my spark plug feeler gauge I'll try to measure more accurately.

Measured rim wall thickness (as best I could, using two bits of spoke and a dial caliper), and it seems to be around 1.3mm. Fiddly job! Received wisdom on the forums says <0.9mm needs replacing.

So - is concavity in itself a problem, as long as the rim walls aren't worn to below .9mm? I'm on older Cosmic Carbone SL wheels, which are running without 'pulsing' or other signs of impending catastrophic failure. Do older Mavics have wear indicators I ought to be looking for? (I looked on the technical .pdfs on the Mavic site, couldn't glean any useful info from them)

I'll need a lot of saving-up time to replace wheels if I need to, any comments/suggestions?

if visibly concave then the rims will need replacing. I waited earlier this year and my rear rim went. Thankfully i stayed upright. Better be safe than sorry.

If you find out how much a replacement rim is please update this thread. Great wheels so it'd be good to know how much it'd cost to replace the rim.
