Road bike bottom brackets/crank axle length question.

Hi guys,

Hope you can help, I just purchased an easton EC90 chainset which comes without a bottom bracket, I have an FSA ceramic external bottom bracket at home which was for a mountain bike originally.

I know the 24mm axle diameter is ok but will the length be ok to use on a road bike frame? It seems to need 3 spacers to pack it out to fit my 68mm road bike BB shell, I however noticed that my other road bike has no spacers on the BB and the same 68mm shell.

If the bottom bracket is too wide can I just ditch the center tube and use it without spacers or will that ruin it? Or perhaps get a different size center tube?

    You're aware that there have been a significant number of quality problems with this chainset with Easton offering refunds to dissatisfied customers? Not quite a recall, but getting close - hence the apparent ebay bargains.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Er...well I know now! Bought it on the back of a good review on this very site.

    I suppose i'll keep the receipt then!

    road cranks and MTB BB are just the same as Road cranks and Road BB. No spacers. but there may be issues with the drive side cup bottoming out due to a deeper cup. and the plastic tube will be too long.
