Which lever do I use on the STI to trim if, for example, I'm in 50x11?

I didn't realise you could trim, but I've just been told you could.

You shouldn't need to trim if you're in 50x11. However; on - say - 50x23 you would trim the front dérailleur to accommodate the sharp chain angle. However; you should avoid such gear combinations or 'cross-chaining' where possible.

agree with Ben you shouldn't need to trim on 50x11 but would on 50x26 or 34x11,

but if you do need to when "cross chaining" then you give almost a half shift on either lever.

personally I love a bit of "cross chaining" depending on terrain or my own laziness and trim the front mech to stop the chain rubbing.
