Hi
after a post on the commuting section i have decided that when my mountain bike needs replacing (i'm thinking quite soon) i will replace it with a road bike.
i commute about 25 miles a day (sometimes 30ish if i'm feeling energetic) 5 days a week so i am willing to spend up to £1000 to get a reasonably decent bike as i will be spending a lot of time in the saddle!
i tried out a giant defy 1 today and a trek 2.1 and they seemed to feel pretty good, think i was a large in the giant and a 58 in the Trek, just to give an idea of sizing.
what would people recommend?

If you are knowledgeable enough and can trust your eye, I'm always happy to buy a pre-loved bike and part with my cash on collection (if possible).
For £1K secondhand you can get some pretty serious bikes that in terms of spec would tower above the bikes that you've mentioned.0 -
2nd the second hand route if you know what your looking for. If you decide on new, the Boardman range get consistently positive reviews. A couple of clubmates have them and are very happy with them but not with the supplier. :?Rock 'n' Roule0

I dont think i'd know what to look out for in a second hand model and I am probably going to go down the cycle to work scheme route so think it will have to be a new one.www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0

ok, i think i may have been getting slightly ahead of myself and the guy in the bike shop may have influenced me a bit too!!
i have revised my budget down a bit to about £750, so looking at:
Spec Allez sport
Spec Secteur sport
Giant Defy 2
Trek 1.2
the local shop near me supplies them all so the after care would be good and handy.
anyone have any of these or any feedback?www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0
