26mm Stem
I have a set of TT bars that I am wanting to fit on my bike, but they have a 26mm bar diameter where as my stem is 31.8.
Been trying to look for 26mm stems but with no luck, are they still being made?! The question is, can i just put a shim on the bar to bulk it up to 31.8? Or does that mean i'll die if i hit a pot hole or something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try googling 25.8mm stem and you will find loads.
It will work fine for a 26mm set of bars.
I think I read somewhere that 25.8mm was made so that you could use either 26mm road bars or 25.4mm mtb bars, then again maybe I just imagined that?0 -
Check out http://sheldonbrown.com/handsup.html
Look at the table and you will see that I did in fact read it on Sheldon's website.0 -

26,0 or 25,8 was the old standard for road before 31,8 Oversize became the standard for road and MTB about 6 years ago. You'll find plenty of stems on ebay or in the ads. I wouldn't use a 25,4mm MTB stem on a road handlebar.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Planet X have some 26mm TTT stems in their bargain department as we speak - something like £3,69 each.

Cheaper than a new stem, though there are plenty of 26mm stems around.0 -
Pro do 26.0mm stems
Ebay has shims too.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0
