I've had a pair of dhb finchdean shorts (large size) for ages, however the pad comes halfway up my ar$e. So when I'm sitting on the bike, the padding which should be under the sit bones is round the back. It seems that they are made for a body shape a lot bigger than mine. I got the medium size and while the overall fit is a bit better, I still get the same problem with the pad being round the back rather than the proper place.

The other thing is that ive got a pair of dhb 3/4 length tights in large from maybe 2009, where the pad is in exactly the right place.

Anyone else had the same problem with the pad being in the wrong place and got some shorts that fit well?

Pad placement problems with DHB and Campagnolo. Best fitting - Lusso and Shutt VR.

I'm 5ft 10", 32" waist and 77 kgs with rowers' legs, and have the Shutt VR pro bibs in M. The pad is a bit far forward for me on one of my bikes but perfect on the other. Think they might be designed for a slightly skinnier person than me, but reckon the L would be too big.

Try Italian manufacturers - Santini & Castelli especially recommended. 8)

+1 For the Castelli Free Aero. I'm a skinny sod as well but the fit on these is superb.

Sure you're putting them on the right way round???

It might be worth trying to tighten up the straps on the front of the shorts by an inch or so (just put a safety pin through a fold)? Might help with bring the pad more into the area needed.

What are 'rowers legs'? Im about the same as you, but about 6' 1".

I have actually tried yanking the pad forward so its better placed but its just sewn into the wrong place. That was the same on both L and M dhb shorts, but not on the L dhb 3/4 bibs ive got weirdly. I dont know how a company can make two things the same size so different.

In this day and age, the company may well produce the different items in different factories, in different countries even.

That's no excuse for such a difference, or poor quality control - but can be one of the reasons why the differences are so dramatic.

My better half's sister is involved with clothing production and she has some fascinating insights into why sizing is so hit and miss - you take a pile of something simple like T-shirts, for example - depending on where they were in the pile of material when it was cut (more like stamped out these days) will depend on how much the fabric was squashed and you'll see a sizing difference of up to about 15% between garments cut on the same machine, at the same time.

I row. I have big legs.

If you're a bit skinnier than me you'll probably fit the Shutt bibs pretty well, might be worth contacting them if you're going to get a pair to advise on sizing based on your height.

I'm 70kg and 5'11" with a 28 inch waist. Giordana (all that I've tried) in a medium work well for me.

    How tall are you MrTapir?

I'm quite skinny and have some a pair of Giordana bibshorts (Tenax I think)
5'10'' 63kg 28'' waist and have medium. Although the legs could do with being 2 cm longer, so I may try on a large next time.
