Looking for a new lid and decided on a Fox Flux, looking on Wiggle they have them listed as "Fox flux helmet" for £45 (a saving of £25 over most places) and have my size and colour, then they have "Fox flux helmet 2010" for £45 but not in my size

Does anybody know if there is any difference in the helmet between the years ? Is the 2011 better than 2010 or 2009.

Thanksfor any help
Paul

  • I had a Flux which i cracked on a tree

I cant see any difference between my old one and the new 2011 so i guess its just new paint schemes for 2011.

I now have a MET Terra which also gets very good reviews (its on BikeRadar i think) and i must say its both lighter and cooler than the Fox and available for about the same price on Ebay.

As with all helmets make sure you try it on before buying.

The only thing i'd keep in mind is that helmets degrade over time, manefacturers reccomend changing them 3 years... this is just a guide line, but an 09 helmet's had 2 years rotting on a shelf, it may be more expensive but a newer helemt will last you longer.

But it's the UV that breaks down the plastics, if they've been sitting in a box, on/underneath shelves, in a warehouse that has an opaque roof I wouldn't worry about it.

its the UV that degrades the plastic so being stored in a box wont affect it in the slightest

    +1 on the UV

The difference is the graffics and the 10 / 11 helmets have a newer strap clasp.

2009 funky colour black strap, 2010 funky colour blue strap, 2011 new colours black strap, wonder what Fox going to-do for 2012

but saying that, i do like it good venting and more protection to the rear of the head over rivals but they not changed at all really in last 3 years

Thanks for the advice guys, managed to try a flux, hex and xen back to back today and the xen was a much better fit than the flux so went for that instead.
If anyone interested on-one have then xen cheapest I could find.

    Thanks

  • had my first ride with my flux on sunday, have to say, great whilst on, very comfy etc. but when i took it off was a lot more sweat on the insde the lid than on my old Hex, couldnt justify the Xen, very nice lid, desperately wanted the lime green, gold and black camo stylee one!! 8)
