Chain skips?

New chain, cassette and chainset, yet there is skipping in the smaller cogs?

I will check the length of the chain against an old one to make sure they are the same - the chain was installed by a LBS, which are not bad or anything like that.

Took it in today they said a new dérailleur is needed. It's odd as the chain seems to have gaps on either side when sitting in the smaller cog as I flip the bike upside down...

Anyone have any ideas?

Rear mech needs adjustment. It is a common failing to turn the barrel adjuster too much - it only needs a quarter turn at a time. And also, pull the cable tight with pliers when clamping ... but not mega tight.

Yeah - I've just been to Evans - felt some mechs on a few bikes and there was like, zero play compared to mine, So yeah - a new mech may solve it. Can not find an old chain though, so not sure if I can eliminate the chain length.

As I say, it is odd though that the chain seems centre on the cog with equal distances to neighbouring ones yet still skips. The bike is upside down though... so I dono.
  • without more info very difficult to say but try the "B tension adjuster screw" -for more info check shimano tech docs (if shimano)
doubt its anything to do with the chain.

The lower pulley wheel wouldn't have any bearing on the chain skipping when the bike is the right way up

Had a play about and nothing seems to have resolved.

A new deraillieur I will try, but it's a shame that I ain't got my old cahin to compare the current one ot.

Will look at a few chain length guides I suppose.
