Hi,
well i wanna do a fairly good service and also replace the bottom bracket on one of my bikes, and iv been looking into it and i need a lot of tools and if i bought them individually the price quickly mounts then i stumbled across this
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... 42558#dtab
halfords own tool kit and it literally has all the tools i need and more. BUT is it to good to be true are the tools a fair quality or will they break easily ? anyone got any experience the 5 pages of customer reviews are all thumbs up but i thought id give you guess the opertunity to give some feedback as you've helped me so much already
Thanks

Probably a decent start, but has tools you'll probably never need (open BB tool, quill stem spanners) and no external BB tool or torx spanners.
But assume your bike has a cartridge BB, if so will do the job.I don't do smileys.

agh thanks
my old bike im sorting out currently has a square tapered spindle/loose ballbearing type bottom bracket and im gunna change it to a sealed cartridge
my new bike has a hollowtech I octalink BB and i will probably replace that at somepoint
whats an external BB tool? do i need one for either of my bikes ?
sorry about all the stupid questions iv been biking a long time just not 'properly' and im getting into it now so im eager to learn0 -
You need a whole new tool for hollowtech 2. Octalink, with the right top hat on the extractor, will remove these cranks, and the spline for the bottom bracket is the same as square taper.
Good value, but you may have to add to it.0 -
Thats near enough the same as the lidl tool kit I bought a few years back. Its a good base starter kit for the price & should suit what you want it for.
Just replace the tools that wear out with use. The screw driver is most likely gonna be the first to goStatistically, Six Out Of Seven Dwarves Aren't Happy0 -
I worked at Halfords for 5 years selling these for 3, I dont think I ever saw one returned? Everything you need for the bikes you have mentioned.0

And the spanners make good pad spacers too.
you need one of these fore a HT2 BB

thanks for all the input il go pick one up today
im not fussed about the hollowtech II atmo its only my gf's bike that has that and its working perfectly touch wood.
on a side note anyone had experience with the halford VP bottom brackets square tapered ones? i dont want to spend alot as its a cheap bike but the loose ball bearings literally go every few weeks.
thanks again0 -

I bought this set after it was recommended on here and generally it's good. The chain on the freewheel lock snapped on the second use but I've repaired it, will probably up grade this at some point and the splined cassette removal tool while ok is a bit of a handfull to use so I replaced it with -
which is much easier to use.
Cone spanners are ok if a little on the flexy side. Sounds a lukewarm review but I actually think it's a great place to start.0
