I've a feeling it only notifies you if you go to the forum index though. At least, that's the only place I ever see the "You have no new messages" link. If you go directly to Commuting Chat, as I do, you'd never see the message box link, and maybe not get the pop-up either.

You get a popup when you browse any forum page. I use FireFox which blocks them but tells me it's done so. I then check messages...

Odd. When I was buying my Tricross from another forum member, we exchanged a few PMs, but I don't recall getting any pop-ups (despite the option being selected in my profile).

Still, it was last year, so maybe I've just forgotten.

My last post was the same time as yours - now we know what you really want - just go to forum index when you log in and it tells you if you have PM's. If it still doesn't work then the forum just hates you.

I've always assumed the email goes into the sent box when you send an email and into the outbox when you have an email ready to go, but for some reason it hasn't been sent.

why are you talking about email? PM is not email. but yes you get sent a mail and a pop up if you are logged in when someone sends you a PM even though it is in there out box waiting to be sent.

Eke, I've told you before, you're a mate and all but I'm just not into that sort of thing. You should probably talk to Hambones if you're serious :shock:

I got an email about the PM - would be really handy if the email contained the contents of the message rather than forcing you to login. Ta though, will be doing plenty of browsing when sizing up the N+1. Beginning to lean toward building rather than going down the Bianchi/similar route, so your next mission is to keep an eye out for frames

By email I meant a message sent electronically via the Private Message function. Is that clear enough?

Ah, now you are into the myriad questions about what steel alloy? Custom built frame or will you buy a frame and build the bike yourself? A self build is very satisfying.

Never had a pop-up, am utterly hopeless at remembering to check my PMs... Have just double-checked that the pop-up thingo is on, and it is...

Firefox/chrome/etc normally warns you when you have pop-ups that are blocked, no?
