I got an email the other day when I received a PM, Is it a setting that needs to be enabled in your CP?0

Erm, it does.
I'd check the email address you've got registered.

Go into 'Edit profile' and under preferences, set 'Notify on Private message' to Yes. Done."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

you may also want to change your time setting.

I've a feeling it only notifies you if you go to the forum index though. At least, that's the only place I ever see the "You have no new messages" link. If you go directly to Commuting Chat, as I do, you'd never see the message box link, and maybe not get the pop-up either.0 -

Odd. When I was buying my Tricross from another forum member, we exchanged a few PMs, but I don't recall getting any pop-ups (despite the option being selected in my profile).
Still, it was last year, so maybe I've just forgotten.0 -

Thats a bit stupid if its correct.
I've always assumed the email goes into the sent box when you send an email and into the outbox when you have an email ready to go, but for some reason it hasn't been sent.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

why are you talking about email? PM is not email. but yes you get sent a mail and a pop up if you are logged in when someone sends you a PM even though it is in there out box waiting to be sent."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Eke, I've told you before, you're a mate and all but I'm just not into that sort of thing. You should probably talk to Hambones if you're serious
I got an email about the PM - would be really handy if the email contained the contents of the message rather than forcing you to login. Ta though, will be doing plenty of browsing when sizing up the N+1. Beginning to lean toward building rather than going down the Bianchi/similar route, so your next mission is to keep an eye out for frames0 -

By email I meant a message sent electronically via the Private Message function. Is that clear enough?
Dhope, time to choose your frame material, aluminium, steel, carbon, titanium or unobtanium. I'd go for the unobtanium.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

Steel please, can't seem to find the unobtainium and I fear if I go for adamantium then we'll set DDD off on one of his comic book education posts :P0 -
Just noticed I had a PM too. Sure before a pop-up appeared. Must be the pop-up bloker or maybe safari....0

Ah, now you are into the myriad questions about what steel alloy? Custom built frame or will you buy a frame and build the bike yourself? A self build is very satisfying.JZed wrote:Just noticed I had a PM too. Sure before a pop-up appeared. Must be the pop-up bloker or maybe safari....

Tempting to build.
Open to advice, as I have no real clue on the relative merits of Reynolds vs Columbus vs Dedacciai or (aside from varying prices) 520 vs 531 vs argh.
Is £190 for a 60s Bob Jackson a steal or daylight robbery?

Never had a pop-up, am utterly hopeless at remembering to check my PMs... Have just double-checked that the pop-up thingo is on, and it is...
Firefox/chrome/etc normally warns you when you have pop-ups that are blocked, no?0 -
If you want to check for new PMs go to the main Forum page.

No, it's not. But it also shouldn't be necessary. Particularly irritating as the forum claims it will reward the recipient with a pop-up that never pops up.0 -
