Bontrager floor standing pump - help

I took my floor standing pump (the bit that locks on to the valve) apart and I can't work out how to get it back together again.

I have not kept the instructions and haven't been able to find anything online.

I have the cylindrical insert that you put in one of two ways, and the little circular piece of rubber that goes on before you screw on the cap.

I have presta valves. Which way round should each of the two parts go?

    Cylindrical insert so the narrowest hole is next to the cap. It's this bit that's squashed and grips the valve stem when you lock the pump head on.
