Sram / Shimano groupset query?

Hi There
Probably a slightly unusual question but here goes..

I am thinking of buying a new bike and fancy a change from compag (running mirage from about 4 years ago). I love the Sram double tap levers with the feel of them and the industrial noise on the up and down shifts and also the brake feel/power. The problem is I much rather prefer the smooth gear transition of the gears of the shimano.

Would it be possible to run Sram red shifters and brakes and combine it with Dura ace front and rear mech and cassete?

Thanks for your time and help on this one!!

no for the mechs but yes for the cassette.

I have Force, Red, Ultegra and DA. Phasing the last two out in favour of the SRAM Red.
If SRAM is set up properly, the shifts are silky smooth, the noise (clunk) comes from the shifter!

OK, where thanks for your help!
  • For what its worth, i switched to Sram from Shimano dura ace and for me, much prefer it and it does not seem to need adjustment tweaks as much.
Summer - Dolan Tuono with Sram Force and Dura-Ace 7850 CL Carbon wheels
Winter - old faithful Ribble winter bike

    This ^

I have found that SRAM needs to be setup bang on correct, you don't have the option to "feather" and "trim" the shifters like you do with Shimano shifters.

Once its setup it shifts (IMO) way better than both my Shimano bikes

Front mech is same pull I thought? So it's just the rear mech that needs to match the shifters?

Yep - I am running an ultegra front mech with Rival shifters on my cross bike and works fine.
