Broken Left Crank Arm

I managed to strip the thread on the left crak arm (Shimano 105 fc-5600 172.5), so I need a new one.

Wondered if rather than look for the 105 crank arm, if any of the other Shimano range would fit it, anyone any ideas there of alternatives.

The 105 arm is around £70 for the arm itself or looks like ribble do the full 105 5600 crankset for a little under that.

Any help appreciated.

I'm presuming that you have stripped the pedal threading in bit thread?

Stripping a thread shouldn't be a problem - yoik the crank arm off, take it to the LBS - they will be able to either a) tap a new thread in or b) helicoil one in.

If they can't do any good/friendly garage will be able to do it. It's a relatively small sized thread so I can't see it being an issue.

Its only soft ali, so no biggie.

I bought a second hand bike recently where the pedal had come loose because of a stripped thread.. I sorted the thread out by screwing the pedal in from the opposite side (inside the crank arm) and then removing it and re-installing as normal - this worked perfectly and is worth trying if you want to avoid buying anything new for the moment.
