Pro Lite Braccianos or Mavic Ksyrium Equipe?

Looking at a wheel upgrade (as is everyone else by the looks of the forum!)

Still got the fulcrum 7s that came on my Bianchi Infinito last summer. I am 89kgs so not huge but any replacements do need to be strong.

For £235, I could get the Braccianos (1501g) or the 2011 Ksyrium Equipe's (1675g).

Is there a clear better option out of these two?

Is it a worthy upgrade? The other option is to run the fulcrums for this summer and go for a bigger upgrade next summer......

Thanks

Just phoned up Ribble to ask about the Braccianos. They won't have any in stock for the "foreseeable future" which will be "months". Shame....

    Yes I did the same!

But HighonBikes on eBay has the Bracciano's for £235 delivered in all options and I can get the Mavics from Merlin for the same.

    Hence the quandry....

  • Chainreaction price match. Send them with an email with the Ribble link. They price matched even when Ribble were out of stock.

Did they actually do them at £191 for you? I asked them and they said no.

If so, can you PM me any confirmation you had via email and I'll go back to them!!

I have Braccianos, paid 191 from Ribble but had to wait a while. Just after I bought them I think they dropped another tenner, Doh! Anyway, great wheels. Lighter than the Equipes and they seem well built. Really transformed by bike, I had 2kg wheels before.

If you're doing really high annual mileages I'd prefer Mavics, I suspect they have better engineered bearings and higher overall build quality. I almost bought some used Ksyrium Elites and they seemed a notch above the Braccianos but were about twice the price new.

The Planet-X Model Bs are 125 quid for 1600g and a few folk have suggested they're actually the same wheel as the Bracciano!

They roll really well and seem stiff , I bought them on the back of good reviews given the price you can't go wrong
  • I was also looking to upgrade my wheelset and had my eye on Ribble's Braccianos.Got tired of waiting for them to be in stock,so bought these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15774(Mavic Ksyrium Elite,2008 model, campag fit,£250).

Triandrun had a half-price sale about a year ago. I bought a pair of Braccianos for £175.

Judging by the similarities in finish I reckon Model-Bs are made by Pro-Lite or whatever factory is behind the brand. Probably not the exact same product as Bracciano though. I own both.
I have three sets of Model Bs (Shimano freehub body) and all are slightly below 1.6kg according to digital kitchen scales off Lidl.
Keep your eyes peeled as Planet X sell Model Bs for £99 from time to time.

CRC wouldn't price match Ribble's out of stock price on the Bracciano's but at £235 from High On Bikes:
    http://www.highonbikes.com/pro-lite-bra ... gnolo.html

I couldn't resist as I only had £250 to spend.

Now I just need to work out how I am going to sneak this package past the missus out to the shed........

Amateur! Have it sent to a mate's house then sneak it past when she's out. If caught say that you hated spending the money but your old wheels were unsafe.

I'm looking at a set of Planet-X model B's for the winter bike. Love the Braccianos on my nice bike but want something cheaper for the hack.
