Hello everyone.
First time poster so please be gentle.
Im looking to get a full on xc race bike as my next bike, but to be honest i have no idea what to get.
Im thinking carbon?, has any one had any bad experiences with xc carbon bikes?, or should i stick with steel/ aluminimum.
I just dont know????? any help would be greatfull.
My budget is about 2 grand.
And all i really want to do is race and thats what the bike will be used for.
Quite like the look of the scott scales, 30/35 but still not sure.
Thanks guys

Plenty of threads on the merits of the frame materials, be worth searching through for comments. Basically if the frame is well designed, the frame material will hold up fine. Carbon tends to be lighter though overall.
Scott Scale, Cannondale Flash and GT Zaskar are all great bikes.0 -

When properly designed / manufactured, Carbon Fibre is a great engineering material, and very appropriate for bike frames. Also check out the Giant XTC Composite 1 and the On-One Carbon Whippet (you can configure your own on their website).Intense Carbine SL

Yep One One Whippet looks and cracking bike at a great price. Just finishing building a race carbon hardtail and can't wait for the summer!!!!
Go carbon......tried and tested for years now. Even started to use it on downhill bikes!Be One Carbon Raw

Try a few, see what you like, there's so many good bikes around that price you'll struggle to find a bad one! The Whippet is certainly stonking value.0

Thanks for your help guys.
Just been on the on one website and must admit i very much like the look of the whippet, and seems a really good deal to.
Think carbon is the way to go.
Anyone got a whippet?0 -
Yep whippet here, bought before they went to the SLX spec you can configure now. Am very pleased with it. Nice and light, seems very stiff to me but is very comfy, amazed how little vibration comes through the frame. Am running an alu seatpost, carbon bars.0

Took my Flash F1 out first time today. Light, stiff, awsome ride.
Good luck with whichever you pick.
