grit=front brakes not recoiling

HI,
When ever I cycle on really wet days on my road bike, my front brakes seem to get a lot of grit inside the mechanism, which results in the spring not being able to recoil them properly after using them so there is always rubbing.
Is this common? any way to work around it?
Cheers,
TBK

    Are you sure it's not the cables?
  • yeah, its not the cables, cause when I disassemble, clean, reassemble its working fine.
    Just find it weird because its never happened on any other bike before.

    The better the kit, the closer the tolerances between component parts. It doesn't take much road crap to gunk up modern calipers.

    What are you using to lube the pivot points? If you use grease rather than oil it will tend to hang around more and be more resistant to being washed out.

    Ah, but is it because of the lube being washed out, or the grit being washed in??
  • Try changing lube, may the lube is attracting all the dirt. Try Muc Off, I use this and I don't have as much problem with grit and dirt being collected in brakes and gears. Again double check cables, if you haven't done so, relube in inner cable. If that Doesn't work then try adjust the resistance in the brake. What brakes are you using btw?

    you could slide a section of a mtb inner tube over your brake calliper to keep the crud out...
  • Im using shimano lube. perhaps i need to be a bit more generous with it. I'll give it a shot at the weekend...
    brakes are Tiagra btw.

    some brakes have a grub screw setting the tension on the pivot. maybe it needs backing off a bit, my tektro rear did this till i eased the clearance a fraction.
